Warner ran a 10.12 100m and then completed nine other events
Canadian decathlon record holder Damian Warner ran the fastest ever 100m within a decathlon competition on Saturday at Gotzis. Warner’s 10.12 helped him to the top spot in the event after day one of competition. The previous world best 100m within a decathlon was held by Warner at 10.15.
His time from Saturday is also the fastest time run by a Canadian in 2019 outdoors, putting him in front of 2018 national champion Aaron Brown.
This time last year Warner broke his own Canadian decathlon record at Gotzis and set the world leading score at the time for the decathlon. Gotzis is a combined-events meet that takes place in Austria. Warner has won the meet four times.
Warner said post-race, “I never expected to run that fast, but I’ll certainly take it. I’ve got to get ready for some long jump.”
